Vocational Training
The objective is to give the opportunity to the teenagers living in the streets and in the slums of Kampala to follow a vocational training in order to learn a skill during a period of 1 or 2 years. Thanks to this training, the children will be able to be find a job afterwards and be able to start a better life.
UCC proposes a wide range of vocational trainings at their Vocational Training Institute, which are officially recognized by the Ugandan government.
The vocational programme was established to skill children and youths for employment by promoting vocational training, life skills, entrepreneurial and business management, and ensures that the curriculum addresses labour market skills demanded. The unemployment of youth in Uganda is enormous where 83% of youths are unemployed and urban unemployment is estimated at 12% about seven times that of rural. Causes are: lack of critical skills considered vital for employment, poor attitude and work ethic, lack of entrepreneurial & business management skills, lack of access to productive and financial means that are responsive to youth needs.
This has resulted into thefts, drug abuse, and a high crime rate among others.

Currently, the Institute offers vocational courses in computer studies, electrical installation, hairdressing, tailoring, radio, television and electronics, and catering which are operational. Approximately 2000 trainees have passed through the Institute and are currently working.
